After watching several YouTube videos by a creator called "Fred in the Shed" where he was using a tiny radio, a Leixen VV 898-S I decided that I would purchase one for mobile operation from the car. I did have an Icom 706 in the car and a Yaesu FT7800 which were both starting to show signs of possible damage from Icy cold winters and hot summers, so a lot of hot and cold cycles so I figured get these into the house and put something cheap and cheerful in the car.
The firmware in these radios cannot be updated. The microcontroller is an OTP type. (One Time Programmable) Once 'flash' is programmed at the factory, it cannot be changed, however, they are good little radios feature packed and 25 Watts maximum power output.
